After looking at the resources for interactive display technology and web 2.0 tools used in the classroom, talk about a specific way you would use each in your classroom. Also, do you think it's important for teachers to incorporate these resources in their teaching? Why or why not?
I would use the Smart Board to display educational resources and interactive applications when teaching content. For example, when teaching math, I would display various worksheets/interactive games and have students come up to the Smart Board and work the problems out. Smart Boards are a wonderful way to focus students’ attention in the classroom. Because the technology is interesting, children are eager to work with it, and teachers should take advantage of this by having every student come up and work on the board. A web 2.o tool that I would utilize in my classroom is a blog. I love the interaction and communication a blog provides. It also provides students/parents practice using technology. Yes, I think it is important for teachers to incorporate these resources in their teaching because it makes learning more interactive and fun and it promotes communication between teachers, students, and parents.
ReplyDeleteFor the Web 2.0 tools I would definitely use the Pinterest and Live Binder as tools for my classroom. Pinterest is a great resource that has many uses for the teachers such as; lesson plan examples, organizing the classroom, designing classrooms, and teaching strategies. The Live Binder tool is a good option for teachers to keep all of their instruction and classroom materials together in one place without printing out all of the papers. For the interactive display technology I would use the Smart board. This is a fun way to teach and practice with the students without the typical pencil and paper at their desk. My son mentioned how much he enjoying being able to go and write on the board for activities and I think the rest of the students would too. I think teachers would be silly not to use these resources. These tools not only make it easier for the teachers, but also make it fun and exciting for the students to learn with.
ReplyDeleteI believe the Interactive Whiteboards technology tool I would use in the classroom is Smartboard. I would use Smartboard as a tool for note-taking where students can write important points on the board, or have students type on the notes on the board, classroom games can be easily played on the board, and I can also use Smartboard to view all forms of media. I believe the Web 2.0 technology tools I would use in the classroom is KidBlog and LiveBinders. I would use KidBlog as a tool for the students to publish posts and participate in discussions that is within a secure classroom blogging community while the teacher maintains complete control over the students’ blogs. I would use LiveBinders as a tool to stay organized as well as to upload documents while also easily combining them with links in a nice organized way for the students and myself. I think it is highly important for teachers to incorporate these resources. I found a fantastic article titled, “Using Web 2.0 Tools in the Classroom,” where it explained the importance, “Web 2.0 Tools are online software programs that allow users to do a number of different things. They can be used to teach curriculum content, store data, create/edit video, edit photos, collaborate and so much more. These programs are often free and are used by teachers, students, and sometimes parents, both in and out of the classroom, on a pretty regular basis.” I agree with this statement as it makes it easier for teachers to incorporate a variety of sources. In regards to interactive whiteboards I found another great article titled, “3 Practical Uses for Interactive Whiteboards,” where an educator explained, “I have a confession to make. About 4 years ago now I fell in love….with my interactive whiteboard. At first it was a mere infatuation, enchanted by all the fancy bells, whistles, and gadgets. As I begin to construct interactive lessons using the built in software I became smitten with the ability to drag and drop any type of media I wanted into my interactive workspace. My students were able to make notes and annotations next to rich media. Class discussions and notes could be saved digitally for the next day, week, or until the end of the unit for reflection. Truly integrating disparate resources into one work space by tying imagery, text, video, and the ability to concept map over and with all of it became addicting. Student-discovered resources could instantly be cut, copied, and pasted into the work space, and to cement my new found love of my IWB, students could interact with the content directly in small groups, or individually. They could explore concepts visually in ways that would take me much longer to construct either online or using traditional methods of whiteboard markers and construction paper cutouts.” I believe these technology tools not only help the student learn but help the educator stay organized in an easier way while also incorporating a variety of sources.

I think smart boards can be used in any subject area to make the lesson more interactive and engaging. I love history, but it was always my least favorite class because it was never more than remembering dates and events. It wasn't engaging so many students checked out. I would use the smart board to bring history to life for my students. With the smart board, you could take virtual tours of historic landmarks, virtual field trips of museums, and realistic looks into the past such as when the Dinosaurs lived.
ReplyDeleteFor integrating Web 2.0 tools in the classroom, I would use blogs and Pinterest the most. Having a class blog where students have to write posts on certain topics would be a great way to introduce them to technology, become good digital citizens, and practice their writing skills. Students could even do peer editing and post comments to each other in a safe manner. Pinterest is a great way to organize and plan lessons and everything is easily accessible and shareable. Teachers are constantly posting lesson plan ideas, new websites they have enjoyed, activities and games, and management techniques. There is so much information available for students, teachers, and parents.
I do believe it is important for teachers to integrate these resources into their classroom, because they will help engage the students, make the lessons for immersive, and brings ideas and concepts to the classroom that otherwise wouldn't be available. Our world is filled with technology and it is allowing us to do things that we never could before, and using technology to help our students interact, understand other cultures and views, and access all of this information is really important to learn. If teachers don't know how to use these resources, their students will be missing out on all of the benefits technology can give to their education.
The interactive display technology that I would use in my classroom in the SMART board. This is an awesome technological advancement that gets students involved in their learning. One way that I would use this technology is to use Google Earth in geography lessons. It would be easy to explore the world and to discuss the different cultures. It could also be used to take a “virtual” field trip. Another way I would use it is to have a class spelling bee. I will call out a word and have 2 students at a time come up and spell the word. I think students will love this as it is interactive and fun. Students usually like a little competition.
ReplyDeleteThe Web 2.0 tools I would use are Pinterest and a blog. I would love to create a classroom blog where my students and their parents can interact and communicate. It is another way to stay connected and informed and is a great way for them to practice their writing and communication skills. Pinterest is awesome! It is a wat to organize things that you like for your classroom, lesson ideas, activities and much more. It is a great resource for teachers.
Yes, I do think it is important for teachers to incorporate these resources in their teaching because it add excitement to the classroom. Students get bored doing the same thing over and over again. Technology such as the SMART board gets them involved in their learning experience. The Web 2.0 tools are valuable as they make things easier for teachers by keeping them organizes and increases communication. Technology can be a useful tool for students as it increases the scope of what they can learn.
I would use the smart board in my classroom daily. The smart board can be used for not only the educator, but the students as well. One way I could use the smart board is for math. I could work the problems out before my students and allow the students to use the equipment as well to work out the problems before their peers. I could use Starfall and the app will give the students quizzes and practice assignments based upon their age level and academic readiness. Yes, it is important for educators to incorporate these resources into their planning, because it becomes meaningful to the students and they are now able to relate to the lesson. Students enjoy using technology devices and incorporating these resources into the classroom can bring motivation and excitement into the classroom for learning.
ReplyDeleteThere are many ways I would use both interactive display technologies and web 2.0 tools in my classroom. For interactive display technologies, I would plan on using an interactive whiteboard by displaying examples and practice problems on the board for my students to work on and also to show my students how to work on problems. For web 2.0 tools, I would plan on using Pinterest as a resource for lesson and activity ideas. I do not think teachers necessarily need to incorporate these tools in their teaching, but I do think it would benefit any teacher that uses them. Interactive technologies would allow students to become more interested in the lesson, simply because it is technology. Web 2.0 tools would be great resources to assist teachers in planning, but they would also be great tools for allowing students to practice skills, at home and in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI strongly feel that teachers should incorporate interactive display technology and web2.0 tools in their classroom. Due that technology is the now, these technologies will enhance educators lesson plan ideas. It will also, get the student active and interesting in the lessons. For example, with web 2.0 some of these programs are free for everyone, so having those tools in a class setting will encourage the students to elaborate on their assignments more. For instance, teaching kindergarteners about vowels. You can have the meaning of vowels with the vowels on the white board while, they have them sorted vowels with a game and also writing words on the white board with a certain amount of vowels. In addition, web 2.0 can be used in many ways, such as having 2nd graders do a project using their voice to say about a country that they pick. these technologies come in very hand with encouraging and boost student’s individual talents while they learn.
ReplyDeleteOne way to use an interactive white board in the classroom is with a math lesson. Kindergarten students can take turns at the interactive white board doing base block addition. A web 2.0 tool that I really like is the Poll Everywhere page. I feel that it can be a very valuable tool for assessing the general knowledge of the classroom and it lets the teacher know if someone is just not getting the assignment. For example, a teacher can post a question that asks to choose the correct word that represents the verb and have the students select from multiple choice answers or do a write your own answer. It is easy to use and the students enjoy seeing all of the answers pop up on the interactive white board. I feel that it is important for teachers to incorporate technology into their lesson plans because it will keep the students engaged longer, they are familiar with technology, and our students are the next generation for creating technology. They more they use technology, the more they will understand how to create it and use it when they become productive members of society.
ReplyDeleteAs educators, the use of Web 2.0 tools is transforming our work, and more specifically the way we teach and support students in the classroom. As schools bring more technology into their classrooms, teachers will in turn attempt to put more technology in their students’ hands. That is, if they are prepared to do so. Web 2.0 Tools are online software programs that allow users to do a number of different things. They can be used to teach curriculum content, store data, create and watch video, edit photos, collaborate and so much more. These programs are often free and are used by teachers, students, both in and out of the classroom, on a regular basis. The question then becomes, are educators prepared to use these tools? How can educator’s best plan to include Web 2.0 Tools into their classroom? How can they best plan to ensure effective tech integration? How can they be sure that the tool remains a support piece to their instructional practice, rather than a replacement? We need to be able to answer for our own work, but more importantly so that we can continuously strive to be an effective educator for our students. The use of Web 2.0 Tools to support instruction is vital. How we use these tools is going to make a critical difference in how we measure our student’s success and how they are supported to meet skills. Here are some web 2.0 tools to use for K-5 grades; Dropbox, Funbrain, Starfall, Spelling City, Google Docs, Google Forms, Storybird, and Skype in the classrooms. These are just a few of many that can be put into lessons and make learning fun and interactive and hopefully build our students’ academic levels to where they need to be , to be better prepared for the future.

I think it is important for teachers to incorporate Web 2.0 and Interactive Display Technology in their classroom because this is the new norm for young people’s’ social networking and social collaboration. The students already have informal collaboration in group messaging about what is important to them. This is their way of life. I think teachers should harness this powerful means of communication and give the students something productive to talk about and/or get them thinking, reading, writing in alignment with the educational standards in which they must learn.
I’d use Wiki in the classroom by using wikispaces. A few ways to use Wikispaces are as a class web page; to make classroom transparencies; for math; resource for notes and literature study; posting class projects; making webquest due to hyperlink capability; easy to edit mistakes and collaborative group commenting; student portfolio; providing resources for using web 2.0 tools in the primary classroom.
Social Networking:
Kik: I would use the Kik ap by creating a classroom chat forum. I would post questions or short assignments like. Post a riddle or joke and see who can post the correct answer first. I would put the students on teams and give points to the winners. That would engage the students and cause them to want to check the Kik chat room often and post to gain points. I would give the team with the highest points something meaningful to them like extended recess or a no homework pass or a no-ticket out the door pass in which they can use once every 3 months.
Myspace: I would use MySpace as a place where I would ask questions and students could reply. The students could add to the conversation. I would use this to improve writing by having students discuss current events that are important to them like BET Music Awards, a new movie that has just been released, sports, celebrities, dream vacations, wish list for Christmas or Birthday, etc… Anything to get students thinking and writing. I would use this format also as a Double Entry Journal about lyrics of music or books.
Facebook: I would not friend students on my personal Facebook page;however, I would create a Private Group for my studnets to write on by commenting on the questions I am asking. This should keep the students safe because I would be the one who lets people in. I can make it private that only members of the group and see the members and the post. The goal would be to improve Reading and writing and problem solving. I would ask questions concerning current events, music, sports as well as Subject content.
Twitter: I would ask questions that would require students to respond in their own words that can only include 140 characters of text. This would make it so the student could show actual understanding instead using a lot of words. They would have to get to the point.
Live Binder: To put everything my substitute will need to run the class as I would that day I am out. Parent Package would help parents to help their child by providing links, worksheets and other resources so they can be a part of their child’s learning. Live Binder has Teaching Tools and E-portfolios. The Teaching Tools allows me to have all the resources my students need in one place. The E-portfolio showcases students’ progress and mastery of standards which helps with assessments and increase students’ own self esteem.
Interactive Displays: I would use the Smart Board to help keep students engaged, focused and motivated to try the activities. I would use the strategy of differentiating the questions so all students would have a chance of success while standing before their peers. My ultimate goal is to give students positive, successful, educational experiences; especially around Math and Science content.
I think it is great how technology has begun to be strategically woven into the elementary classroom. This is a very interesting and exciting time to be entering the field of education. The possibilities are becoming endless.
The web 2.0 tool I would use to support my lesson planning are Pinterest and EdCanvas. I would use Pinterest to browse for inspiration on classroom décor, organization as well as for lesson plan ideas. I would use EdCanvas website to create interactive lessons and presentations for my students. The smart board is an interactive technology tool I would utilize to engage my students and to keep them interested and involve in the lesson. I would utilize the smart board as part of our morning daily routine. For example, at the start of the day I would use it to take attendance. I would also use it to help the student gain knowledge on how to use and manipulate the equipment. I would also utilize this versatile technology to create games, and to demonstrate videos that relates to the topic we are learning. This way the children can get a better understanding as well as make a connection to what we are learning with real life issues.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this lesson because it showed me resources that I had no idea existed. Edcanvas directed me to blendspace.com. I will be using this to find material, track data, and organize lessons. The ease of finding relevant material that fits the topic is appealing. I would use this tool in my class to organize the digital videos to match a lesson. The ability to create assessments that gather data for student responses would also be used in in lessons presented.
ReplyDeleteThe smartboard appeals to me due to the ease of calibration and setting up. The interaction it allows is outstanding. The ability to take notes, save information, and take snapshots allow it to serve as a resource center as well. The smartboard is like a big touch screen computer with blackboard abilities.I would use this during instruction time to show how to document, solve, or create things. It would also serve as the display option for interactive games and collaboration activities.
Teachers should incorporate these resources to assist them in finding material, displaying material, and engaging students with the many options associated with the tools. If a teacher visits the same resources for every lesson the lessons will become unengaging to the students. Using resources and tools connected to the web allow the new material shared by others to be accessed with little effort. Using interactive display technology allows the students to be involved in the entire experience on a digitally advanced level.
After reading about the Web 2.0 tools, I would use the Voice Thread. Voice thread has been known for as a very valuable classroom collaboration tool. One way that I would use this tool within the classroom is by using it as a storytelling tool. This is a great way to have students engaged more with their reading lessons. I would also use this tool to help with empathy skills. By using images, the students could comment about the image, giving detailed feedback.
ReplyDeleteFor interactive display technology, I would surly use the Smart Board. If teaching science, for example, I could use the smart board to explore the solar system up close. I could also compare characteristics and properties of rocks and minerals.
I believe it's extremely important for teachers to incorporate these resources in their teaching. One reason being these resources can help accommodate different learning styles. These resources have also been known to improve classroom management.
After looking at the resources for interactive display technology and web 2.0 tools, I would use the smartboards in my classrooms. The Smartboards allow teachers to save additional information without having to erase nor wait for students to copy information. A teacher could send the documents and or lessons from the smart board to students for extra studying. The smartboard is also benefit both the teacher and the students because the teachers can use the board to share videos for lessons and can create games for the students to get more involved. The smartboard has several tools that will allow students to be creative by allowing them to draw and touch the screen to their liking. I believe it will get students eager to learn and more excited about the lesson. Teachers can also use the smart board in the dark which changes the mood in the classroom. If a classroom has laptops the teachers can connect the smart board programs to desktops and cellar devices for students as well. I believe it is important for teachers to incorporate these resources in their teaching because it will benefit the students as a whole and will allow students to used creativity to better understand their education.

ReplyDeleteI would use the interactive smart board to host lesson introductions, reviews, notes on specific lessons, and many other lesson specific tasks. The best usage for the smart board would be anytime a concept is reviewed and a path can be presented by showing steps. Blogs would be a web 2.0 tool that I would use to allow students the opportunity to participate. This would provide a output option for those students that do not readily speak up in class during open discussions.
ReplyDeleteI think it is important for teachers to incorporate these resources because they assist in providing a learning experience set up to be successful. The displays allow group review of things that sets expectations of how to take notes and complete assignments. Web 2.0 tools allow for differentiation and access to resources that others have used and shared. If a teacher is able to use other resources and tools and create a successful learning environment then the interactive display and web 2.0 tools would not be important to be incorporated. However, I believe all teachers should be aware of the tools and resources to be used to aid in meeting ISTE standards and to provide different options when needed.
I would definitely use the Smartboard in the form of being able to outline my lessons such as in Reading. I would use various slides in PowerPoint to teach. For example, the first slide would consist of morning work which would allow students to come in immediately, unpack and get to work without waiting on me, the second slide would be of a video from you tube etc. to hook my learners into what we will be discussing that day. Another slide would consist of a closure that may be an activity game to review the covered skill. I would use it for interactive games, show videos, and to involve students. The Web 2.0 that interest me was blog because it allows the communication piece between myself and the parent to be ongoing. These tools are vital to use because it assists with meeting the needs of visual, kinesthetic, and auditory learners. It also assists with students who are unable to remain seated. As a part of evaluation, it is important to maintain communication with parents, so blogging would definitely be a great way to do that.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at the resources for interactive display technology and web 2.0 tools, I would use the smartboards in my classrooms. I could have the students come to the board and show the class how to work certain problems out and I could also have the students watch videos from the smart board that relate to the math problems from the lesson. I could also have the kids come towards the front of the class and use the smart board to draw images and other clip art to make figuring out he answer more simple. The Smartboards allow teachers to save additional information without having to erase nor wait for students to copy information. A teacher could send the documents and or lessons from the smart board to students for extra studying.
